How to redeem an Xbox code
Xbox codes are 25 characters and go through your Microsoft account, so a code redeemed on the web instantly shows up on the console signed in to the same account.
Sign in with your Microsoft account
On the console, at xbox.com/redeemcode, or in the Xbox app on Windows. All three lead to the same account.
Open the redeem screen
On the console press the Xbox button → Store → Use a code. On the web, redeemcode.microsoft.com does the same job.
Enter the 25-character code
Dashes are optional. If the camera scan on the console misreads the code, type it manually.
Confirm
The game or subscription unlocks on the account right away and can be installed on any Xbox you sign in to.
When something goes wrong
"This code is not valid in your region"
The Microsoft account country must match the code. Country can be changed in account settings, but any existing wallet balance is lost - so check before buying.
Game Pass codes and stacking
Microsoft limits how much subscription time can be stacked. If the code is refused, an existing subscription is usually already at the limit.

Most modern keys cover both generations, and the product title states it when they do not.
Does the code work on PC too?
If the product is listed as Xbox Play Anywhere or Microsoft Store, yes - the same account carries it to Windows.
